Worship and Music

Purpose

The worship and music ministry is composed of various groups that believe it is our privilege to offer up words of praise through song and music to our Lord.

Membership

The Choir rehearses Wednesdays from 7:15-8:45PM (7:30-8:45 PM on Ministry Team Nights) and Saturdays from 10:00-11:00 AM.  The choir alternates singing at the 8:45AM service and the 11:15 AM service.  We welcome anyone who wants to use his or her voice and love of music to worship God.

Choir Cantatas are opportunities for people who are unable to make a weekly commitment to the choir.  As cantata time approaches, we rehearse at the beginning of Wednesday choir rehearsals, and we schedule several Saturday rehearsals (for which childcare is provided) for those people who want extra practice, or cannot come out on Wednesday nights.  The cantatas are particularly special events because we have about 50 singers participate, and are accompanied by the Orchestra.

The Orchestra is directed by Jesse Holton, and accompanies the Choir for cantatas.  The orchestra begins rehearsals about 2 months prior to the cantata, and usually meets about once a week.  We have had trumpet, bassoon, euphonium, clarinet, flute, drums, guitar, bass, piano and synthesizer, and would be interested in including other instruments.

The Praise and Worship Team rehearses every Wednesday night from 5:45 to 6:30PM.  We prepare the Praise and Worship songs that are included in every worship service, as well as pieces for special music, and for a concert in November.  Singers are recruited from the choir and cantatas based upon the vocal part needed.  The band includes guitars, bass, keyboards and drums.

The Audio/Visual Team provides a crucial function; the ability for people to hear what's being said, sung or played and the projection of the words on the screen.  We have some people who are sound experts, and they provide technical support and expertise when there is a problem.  Being an engineer might be helpful, but the most helpful quality for running the soundboard is being an attentive listener.  We have regular training sessions, and several extremely knowledgeable people that will help you get all the information you need to be able to run the board.  The video presentations are prepared for you prior to Sunday; you just have to be there to run the computer.  Unless you want to participate more frequently, the commitment is usually about one service every 6-8 weeks.
