Running on Faith is a 12 week recreational running club for girls, ages 7-14, who want to glorify God and learn more about His plan for their lives while training for a 5k event. The program will begin on Sunday, March 7th and will conclude with the girls participating in The Race for the Cure 5k at Meredith College in Raleigh on June 12th. The club combines Bible study, individual and group reflection and games, along with training for a 5k road race. The group will meet every Sunday from March 7th –June 6th (except Easter Sunday) from 1:00-2:30.
The registration cost is $50.00 for those girls planning to run in the Race for the Cure on June 12th or $35.00 for girls just participating in the running club. The registration fee covers the cost of a T-shirt, curriculum materials and supplies, and weekly healthy snacks. You can download a copy of the registration and release forms here. You can bring or mail your forms, along with the fee, to the church office.
Objectives:
1) To help participants feel supported and encouraged.
2) To develop healthy lifestyle habits and strategies for making wise choices based on God’s desire for our lives.
3) To foster healthy relationships with peers and strengthen their relationship with God.
Each meeting will begin with an introduction to the day’s Bible verse/study topic. A warm up activity will get the girl’s minds and bodies prepared for the day’s topic. The warm up will be followed by a 30-45 minute training period where the girls will participate in a gradual 5k training plan which implements a walk/run program. After the training period, the girls will participate in a cool down activity which includes a Question and Answer period about the day’s Bible verse and study topic. Each session closes with a healthy snack and positive affirmation and relationship strengthening time.
The themes for the session include:
God’s Desire for You
God’s Desire for Your Relationships with Others
God’s Desire for Your Relationship with Him
Training Schedule:
We will incorporate a walk/run method of training. We will begin with walking and running for a quarter mile. Each week we will add an additional quarter mile until by week 12 everyone has completed 3 miles. Our goal is to cross the finish line and complete 3.1 miles be it walking, running or a combination of both, no matter how long it takes to finish.
