Last year we had a very meaningful evening as we began the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday coinciding with our regular Ministry Team Night. The thought occurred to us, ‘Why not combine the two, have dinner together and then go directly into our brief worship time?’ If you were there, you may remember that we concluded our time by sharing the Lord’s Supper at our dinner tables.
This year, Ash Wednesday doesn’t happen to fall on the first Wednesday of the month. Therefore, we decided to change the date of our Ministry Team Night Dinner so we could combine those two special events once again this year. Here’s how it will work: we’ll join together for Ministry Team Night dinner and Ash Wednesday on Wednesday, February 14th.
We’ll begin with dinner being served from 6 to 6:30 PM. We really need for you to sign up for the dinner if you plan to come. Those preparing the meal want to make sure there is plenty of food for everyone to enjoy. We’ll have a great time of fellowship as we share a meal together.
At about 6:30 PM, I’ll begin our worship time which will culminate in each table having the opportunity to share in the Lord’s Supper together. Hopefully, close to 7 PM, we’ll be finished with worship and will then make our way to our Ministry Teams or will be on our way home.
Lent is going to have special significance for us this year as we focus our attention especially on prayer. Through the weeks of Lent, others and I will be preaching sermons that will hopefully be helpful as we seek to deepen our prayer lives. During the week, you will have the opportunity to be in a small group where, together with a few fellow members of Triangle, you will be able to explore – in even deeper ways – the amazing gift that God has given us through this thing called prayer.
I would be the first to admit to you that as long as I have been a follower of Jesus, I have considered myself to be a novice when it comes to prayer. I have read countless books on prayer, preached sermons on prayer, heard the sermons of others on prayer, and yet still consider myself to be a “beginner.” That is in part why I am excited to enter into this time with you, so that together we can grow deeper in our prayer lives. During our time together, we will consider the purpose of prayer. One week we’ll explore how and why we can pray with confidence. We’ll look at the Lord’s own pattern for prayer. We’ll also think about how we can pray for a breakthrough, and how we can pray when we find ourselves in times of crisis. I think we have a rich and rewarding time ahead of us.
I hope you will plan now to participate in every way you can. Even if you don’t ordinarily come to Ministry Team Night, I want you to come and join in this dinner. Even if you have not been in a small group, I want you to join one for this six week period. Through the Lenten season I believe God can do a life transforming work in our lives. Wouldn’t it be great if, at the end of Lent, we could each say, “I’ve never felt closer to the Lord than I do now?”
I believe that can happen. I’m all in…are you?
Together with you in Christ’s service,
